Woohoo…Just realized moi blog completed an year in its cyber-life…Not bad, considering I really did not expect it to last beyond my initial I-too-have-to-blog euphoria…Although I gotta admit I’ve been as erratic as one can ever be in blogger parlance ;)

Hope I’m a bit more regular with my blogs here..Not there there ain’t anything to blog on….Now that I’ve successfully stuck myself in a rot, for the umpteenth time in my life, I do have a *lot* to crib/praise/exude/exhume….But looks like I’ve misplaced my sense of verbiage….

Whatever, Here’s wishing my blog a Happy First Anniversary :D

A good friend tells me something she heard recently. Forget World Bank, Forget the central Govt’s growth estimates, forget all those growth prospects as cited by umpteen reports by every research firm worth its salt, forget the dizzying heights the sensex is touching, and forget all the $$$ that Rajeev Chandrasekhar will be busy counting for the rest of his life ::: The news is , sadly, India’s never gonna develop :( And why is that so ?? Vasthu stupid !! India’s Vasthu is doomed…India has the Majestic Himalayas in the north east corner and according to some principles of Vasthu, thats something to be avoided at all costs !! Sadly, Our Govt does not have a ministry for Vasthu ;)

Just had a visit by a Sify Broadband sales executive who wanted to sell me a broadband connection. Ever since BSNL implemented their 1GB data-cap (which btw sucks!!), I’ve been looking at alternatives. So heard the sales chap out!! The guy tells me they have this wonderful nouveau plan for 1100 bucks where-in he would offer me a no-data-cap unlimited connection !! I was like, where’s the cable !! Next min, he warns me, downloads are limited to 150MB/day !! I am like, wtf man!! And he goes on to explain that Sify’s idea of “unlimited” connection is limited by a 150MB toll gate !!! And to top it, he wanted a one-time installation charge of 2000 for laying a simple LAN cable (minus the ethernet card!!)..When will broadband service providers in India learn that bandwidth isn’t still that elusive thing to make consumers shell out big bucks !! I am more inclined to believe that these companies wanna milk the customers to the final drop before they actually accept international service standards !!

MV Foundation has recently launched a nation-wide campaign to amend the Child Labour Act 1986. The organization is currently soliciting the support of individuals in dashing off letters to their elected constitutional functionaries as well as the higher-ups. Do take a look at their web-site and do in your bit by sending in this letter to the President. And do spread the message around :)

Fired up Indian Railways site to check up on the train timings as my ticket didn’t have the same(a changed time-table from 1st july..and its July 4th today)…And what do I find??

This !!!

Indian Railways.jpg

Completely beats me the reasons for having a website (forget the poor English and pathetic color combo)….For all that we know, some Babu somewhere might have perceived it a risk to national security to put the time-table as soon as it became effective ;)

And a chance glance at my pop-up blocker shows….. This !!!

Indian Railways popups.jpg

Guess like most Sarkari avtars, the site too has a condescending look on citizens…I, for one, fail to comprehend WHY any govt website has to have adverts (and to make it worse–>pop-ups)!! As it is, The railways makes truck-loads..correction..wagon loads of money with its complete (forget konkan for a moment) monopoly…

Deep Impact expected on Monday Morning 1000hrs(IST)…Well, In case you are wondering what that is and have not heard the buzz of-late, its the collision of a spacecraft by NASA into a comet Tempel 1…The entire collision is going to be recorded by another fly-by mothership and is expected to give critical insights into the origins of the world & beyond…And almost giving credence to the Hollywood filmmakers, the impact is to occur right ahead of the American Independence day ;) ….I, for one, am planning to catch a webcast from any of the multiple sources that are available…
