Fired up Indian Railways site to check up on the train timings as my ticket didn’t have the same(a changed time-table from 1st july..and its July 4th today)…And what do I find??
This !!!

Completely beats me the reasons for having a website (forget the poor English and pathetic color combo)….For all that we know, some Babu somewhere might have perceived it a risk to national security to put the time-table as soon as it became effective
And a chance glance at my pop-up blocker shows….. This !!!

Guess like most Sarkari avtars, the site too has a condescending look on citizens…I, for one, fail to comprehend WHY any govt website has to have adverts (and to make it worse–>pop-ups)!! As it is, The railways makes truck-loads..correction..wagon loads of money with its complete (forget konkan for a moment) monopoly…

Try browsing the site without the pop-up blocker. You’ll never go there again :))

ok it was pathetic but prob its some outsourced job. some s/w engg like us only has done it & not some sarkari babu. of course its their responsibility but then thats another matter, rgt?

As a matter of fact, it is not outsourced, but maintained by CRIS, an in-house division
…Btw, the no of pop-ups have now increased to 9

BTW,the Indian railways seldom makes profits. It runs through govt. subsidy.Monopoly need not always yield mind-boggling profits.
